tick tock

At this point we're just playing the waiting game. With only 5 days(!) til the boys due date, we're just waiting on him.

Sallys ready to done with "hauling of the child" part. Which I totally understand (as well as a man can).

But me. Well, I am TOTALLY FREAKING OUT!!!

Week 37 update

From Sally

We had our ultrasound this morning. The baby weighs right around 7 pounds now and everything looks good. Hard to see much or get good pictures since he's in pretty cramped quarters. He pretty much fills up my entire tummy. They checked out all his internal organs and everything looks great. Should have a very healthy baby. Still in head down position like he should be, and resting very low, so he has dropped down. Let's hope he's getting ready to make his move!

She (the doctor) asked if I'd been feeling any braxton hicks contractions yet, and I haven't. She said not to worry, some women don't get these practice contractions, or if they do they aren't really strong enough to distinguish. Once I do start feeling contractions I need to wait until they are about 30-50 seconds long and 5 minutes apart for an hour. Then call the Dr's office before heading to the hospital. Unless my water breaks first (which is not very common). Then call right away.

If by the time June 4 arrives and he hasn't wanted to make an appearance yet, they usually wait a week before inducing. The preference is to let the baby decide he's ready to come out.

She said there is nothing really special I should be doing right about now. Just rest when I need to and take it easy. Unfortunately there isn't anything I can do to hurry the process along. :)

We've gotten everything ready at home, and I'm close to having things wrapped up at work. So now we just wait. Our next Dr's appointment is next Wednesday afternoon.

We'll keep you posted! Hopefully he'll be ready in the next two weeks!

Houseing around

The past few months have been a hectic race to get the house "ready" for Chase.

The kitchen remodel is finally done. Yay! New - cabinets, counters, sink, dishwasher, floor, all in a whole new layout (except for the floor. Its still in the same place ;).
Its much nicer, far more efficient, and our wallets are much lighter.
I've got our and the baby room floors refinished, and most of the stuff is back in place. The baby room is basically done, and there are more stuffed animals in there than I ever knew could even exist. Oy.

We've also got all our bags packed and ready to go, just in case junior decides to make an early appearance (we're thinking any time within the next 2 weeks).

My only request at this time is that the boy wait til after next Friday, just so that we can see the new Star Wars movie in the theater. I told Sally if he's born before then, his new name will be Anakin.

Just about ready...

The baby, not the parents ;)

Week 37

How your baby's growing: Congratulations! Your pregnancy is now considered full term - meaning your baby is developmentally ready to handle life outside the womb. (Babies born before 37 weeks are pre-term and those born after 42 weeks are post-term.) Your baby probably weighs a little over 6 pounds at this point and measures between 19 and 20 inches, head to heel.

Many babies have a full head of hair at birth, with locks from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long. But don't be surprised if your baby's hair isn't the same color as yours. Dark-haired couples are sometimes thrown for a loop when their children are born blonds or redheads, and fair-haired couples have been surprised by Elvis look-alikes. And then, of course, some babies sport only peach fuzz.

How your life's changing: The next couple of weeks are a waiting game. Use this time to prepare your baby's nursery or to take care of tasks you may not get around to for a while after your baby's born. Take naps and catch up on your reading while you can.

Little Blog Peep

Not without my daughter is an interesting look into a couples time before and after the birth of their little girl.

I told Sally that I wouldn't be taking pictures and all that while we were in the delivery room. But we did just buy a cool new digital video camera...

Almost there...

Week 35

How your baby's growing: Your baby's getting big. He weighs a tad over 5 pounds and is just over 18 inches long. Because it's so snug in your womb, he isn't likely to be doing somersaults anymore, but the number of times he kicks should remain about the same. His kidneys are fully developed now, and his liver can process some waste products. Most of his basic physical development is now complete - he'll spend the next few weeks putting on weight. Your doctor will probably want to start seeing you every week until you deliver.

How your life's changing: Your uterus - now up under your ribs - has expanded to about 15 times its original volume, and you may feel like you've run out of room! If you could peek inside your uterus, you'd see that there's much less amniotic fluid and much more baby in there now. Your ballooning uterus is crowding your internal organs too, which is why you probably have to urinate more often and have heartburn and other digestive problems.
